A Letter to You
Gus Fontaine
When I was young my nan used to come back from trips away with an old matchbox, carrying various treasures. This project is a letter to my grandparents. Imagery from the 1970s collected from their photo albums and films has been the source of inspiration, informing the design and pattern cutting process. I wanted to look through the lens of my grandparents living in the same area as I grew up in, making it key to use friends who grew up with me to model in this collection. The wearability of a look is really important to me, I struggle to design garments that me and my family/friends wouldn’t wear.
Born and raised in Shepherds Bush, West London, Gus Fontaine is a menswear designer specialising in tailoring. With strong pattern cutting skills combined with a close attention to fabric selection, Fontaine gives a nostalgic angle through an exploration of his personal life.
