NOKORI (The Remaining time)

June Jeong

Interpreting the fascinating handcraft techniques of Aizome, Shibori, Dorozome, Sashiko, and Boro, June Jeong seeks to capture the beauty found in imperfection, everyday simplicity, and the quietly enduring. Creating an intensely personal collection laced with memory and meaning, June re-purposes time-worn vintage kimonos and other found or deadstock fabrics honouring their origins and histories.

Titled Nokori, meaning “what is left behind” in Japanese, the collection is subtitled Remaining Time, reflecting fragments of the self that span the past, present, and future. This concept extends beyond personal reflection to represent the continuation of traditional craftsmanship embracing transformation and quiet renewal in response to changing times.

Rooted in Korean and Japanese heritage, the designer imagines an ‘indigo-tinted, rainy day’ in 1970s Tokyo, translating this vision into a palette of nostalgic earth tones fused with faded blue and green. Poetic yet practical, these garments celebrate culture and care, inviting what remains to be seen, worn, and remembered anew.

June Jeong is a menswear designer rooted in South Korea and Japan. With a deep respect and gratitude for the spirit of craftsmanship, his practice explores how to carry forward the legacy of the past while reinterpreting it through a contemporary lens seeking a considered balance between preservation and evolution. Drawing from diverse cultural elements, he aims to weave these influences into modern menswear that is both meaningful and respectfully harmonious. His work reflects a commitment to thoughtful storytelling through garments, where tradition and modernity quietly coexist.
