DAIZ : Re-Marshing The Cloud

DAIZ is a community-oriented AI research and data infrastructure project that responds to the spatial, political, and environmental conditions shaped by contemporary digital systems. Drawing on the critical writing of McKenzie Wark, the project engages with the concept of the Vectoral Class and the power structures that govern the ownership and circulation of data. Rather than accepting the prevailing model of centralised data centres and extractive cloud infrastructures, DAIZ proposes an alternative territorial and civic framework.

The project seeks not only to expand how local communities engage with future technologies, but to construct a technological identity rooted in place, participation, and collective agency. Through a decentralised data commons, research facilities, and environmental systems embedded within the Docklands landscape, DAIZ models a different relationship between infrastructure and community one based on transparency, education, and shared governance.

Positioned as a model data campus, DAIZ operates as an alternative to the dominant systems established by the Vectoral Class. It integrates simulation, ecological regeneration, and public engagement, reframing AI infrastructure as a civic asset rather than a concealed extractive mechanism. In doing so, the project positions architecture as an active mediator between technology, territory, and society in a near-future shaped by computational systems
