DVAARAM

Sriya Poosapati

Rooted in South Indian concepts, "Dvaaram" is built through slow, labour-intensive repetition, hand-drawn grids, and meditative mark-making. Red and gold are not decorative—they carry cultural weight: red for energy, protection, and "Shakti"; gold for luminosity, prosperity, and the auspicious.

The raw canvas absorbs the acrylic pigments unpredictably, allowing stains, gradients, and irregularities to emerge—echoing South Indian textile traditions where cloth, dye, and touch hold meaning. Repetition becomes ritual, and structure becomes a space for emotion, memory, and uncertainty. The work holds the tension between order and slippage, craft and abstraction, heritage and contemporary making.

DVAARAM is not something added to my identity—it is already present in my rhythms, my colours, and the quiet labour in every mark.

Sriya Poosapati is an India-based mixed media artist and BA (Hons) Fine Art (Mixed Media) student whose practice is rooted in abstraction and material exploration. Working across painting, printmaking, drawing, and installation, she combines intuitive mark-making with research-led processes. Her work engages with pattern, repetition, grids, and spatial structures, exploring the tension between order and fluidity. Influenced by modern and contemporary abstraction, her practice emphasises experimentation, surface, and process as sites of inquiry. Sriya has participated in universities in the UK and independent exhibitions in India, and aims to develop a critically engaged, evolving practice within contemporary art discourse.
