House of Flora

Danilo Pinheiro

House of Flora is a proposal that explores the relationship between queer ecology, collective living, and spatial fluidity. Designed as both sanctuary and social infrastructure, the project creates a vibrant environment where community, creativity, and care can coexist through a series of interconnected public and private spaces.

Inspired by ecological systems and the adaptive nature of queer spaces, the architecture rejects rigid boundaries in favour of openness, transformation, and interaction. The scheme combines artist studios, communal workshops, performance areas, gardens, and flexible event spaces alongside quieter moments of retreat and reflection. Spaces shift gradually from public to intimate, allowing visitors and residents to move freely between collective gathering and personal privacy.

This project allows for an ecosystem to exist within it. As the facade of the building is a steel structure (The Dress) covered with planters and plants that are meant to house insects and other species, making this space a crossover between the human experience and the natural order.

My name is Danilo, though most people know me as Nilo. I’m British-Brazilian, and my identity is shaped by contrast, loud and refined, chaotic and intentional. I’m deeply drawn to the worlds of art, architecture, fashion, and music, particularly the raw energy of rock culture and the theatricality of haute couture. I’m fascinated by creativity that provokes emotion, makes a statement, and refuses to be ignored.
