Juxta Transit

Juxta Transit - A visual narrative rooted in the tension between the designer's, Qasim Okhara, Nigerian heritage and Queer identity, discovered and grown in London. Not a story of conflict, but of coexistence of an individual who does not abandon tradition to grow, but grows from within it. Inspired by the photographic legacies of Samuel Fosso and Ruth Ossai, the concept draws on the visual language of the Nigerian amateur family portrait: a humble, tender genre that carries enormous cultural weight. The set is conceived as a living room frozen in memory stripped backdrop, draped curtains, a single wooden chair, and transparent plastic sheeting covering both chair and floor, to prevoke the preserved home, the domestic space held carefully against time. An empty frame hangs on the backdrop: present, but holding nothing. A portrait waiting to be made.
In a deliberate nod to Fosso's practice, the camera pulls back far enough to reveal the studio itself, the lights, the edges, the space. What we see is not a memory retrieved but one consciously staged. An act of authorship. A choice about which traditions to carry, and how.

Manon Hall
Graduated from Fashion Marketing and Promotion in 2026, Manon Hall is an aspiring multi disciplinary creative director experienced in conceptualising and producing editorial material such as events, imagery, communicational material and exhibitions for fashion and culture. Together with the designer she was the leading voice of this shoot and took the role as Art Director and Set Designer.
In every project she undertakes she doesn't create to fuel the current system, but creates to change it to a more considerate world.
Aditya Misra
Aditya graduated in BA Photography in 2026 at UoW and was the photographer of this project. Having deeply studied Fosso's work in past projects, he was familiar with Juxta Transit's main artistic direction and was able to successfully contribute to the team's vision.
Qasim Okhara
Designer and creative director Qasim decided to return to University to fortify his designing and branding skills and is completing level 5 of the Fashion Design Course at UoW in 2026. His work is deeply inspired by his heritage, exploring identities and the art industry where he aims to bring a new lense on combining tradition and progressive cultures. He uses textures, prints, colours, 3D technologies and more to pay homage to his roots while honouring new cultures.
