Raat ki Rani- Queen of the night
Nuha Dhorajiwala
Raat ki Rani is a ready-to-wear collection that explores contrasts — bold yet romantic, soft yet structured — channelling the charisma of 1970s Bollywood icon Parveen Babi. Known for her unapologetic glamour and unconventional presence, Babi became the muse for a nocturnal queen: powerful, enigmatic, and untamed.
The collection also draws from the delicate intricacy of Mughal jali (latticework) and columned architecture, informing both surface detail and silhouette.
Sharp tailoring is softened by expressive draping, creating silhouettes that shift between precision and fluidity. A structured suit, flowing column dresses, and playful separates are crafted in sheer georgette, lustrous satin, and plush velvet - capturing the layered moods of twilight.
Laser-cut “thorn” motifs, referencing the hidden danger of a rose, pierce through fabrics to introduce subtle tension into otherwise graceful forms. Theatrical influences emerge through exaggerated sleeves, elongated proportions, and rich textural contrasts — garments designed to command attention while remaining effortlessly wearable.
