The Poetics of Spaces.
Chienjui Tseng
Chienjui Tseng’s final collection explores the emotional and spatial relationship between clothing and the idea of home, drawing from memories of three different houses that shaped her upbringing. Through garments, Tseng reconstructs forgotten domestic fragments and childhood experiences, transforming personal memories into wearable spaces.
Material hybridisation and fabric combination form the foundation of Tseng’s collection. Each textile carries its own history, sourced from reclaimed suiting fabrics donated by Savile Row tailors during her apprenticeship, recycled materials from graduate collections, and antique textiles collected from around the world. Through fabric manipulation, layering and reconstruction, these materials are transformed into new forms that reflect the relationship between memory, materiality and time.
Inspired by children’s uniforms, the works of artist James Castle, and geometric furniture design, Tseng translates architectural elements into garment construction. Traditional tailoring techniques are combined with experimental textile approaches to explore how structure, silhouette and material can reshape the body’s experience of clothing.
The collection considers garments as an extension of home, placing the body within a dialogue between memory and material, dwelling and movement. By merging architecture, craftsmanship and personal history, Tseng redefines the relationship between space, identity and belonging.
Chienjui Tseng is a Taiwanese fashion designer based in London. She trained as a tailoring apprentice on Savile Row, developing a strong foundation in traditional bespoke craftsmanship. She also gained experience at Standing Ground, Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY and Chopova Lowena, contributing to garment development, fittings, sample construction and finishing. Her practice focuses on the dialogue between traditional craftsmanship and innovative textile exploration, with a particular interest in material experimentation, fabric manipulation, silhouette and construction. She explores how materials and techniques can transform the shape and experience of garments.
