The Room I Grew Up In (Again)
Edward Reynolds
This series explores the instability of memory and the shifting relationship between past and present selves. Each image depicts a different memory from my childhood. These are not exact depictions of what happened, but representations based on what I’ve re-remembered, been told and imagined. The use of collage serves as both method and metaphor. Through repeated cutting, scanning and printing, the images accumulate distortion, recreating the way recollection changes over time. Each scene in set within the same room, a neutral stage that avoids the specifics of real places. Where adult me stands in for childhood me, revisiting these memories and highlighting the distance between who I was and who I’ve become.
